Our Mission
At South East Haiti Medical Facility, our mission is to provide quality medical care in a compassionate environment. We strive to improve our patient's overall health and well-being.
Our Vision
We recognize that every person is precious and we believe that bringing health care to Mare Briole and the surrounding areas will encourage the people of those communities who are among the most vulnerable members of our human family.
Our Story
In 1997 the Catholic Church of the Transfiguration in Marietta, Georgia began a relationship with the Parish of Notre Dame de Lorette in Belle Anse, Haiti through the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas. A school was built and funded at the parish in Belle Anse. A number of medical mission trips from Transfiguration took place during this process.
In 2003 HERO was formed as a 501(c)3 to help serve the construction needs in Haiti. This organization http://herononprofit.org/ has been instrumental in facilitating the construction of schools, clinics and water projects in Haiti. Please refer to the herononprofit.org website for more information.
In 2020, construction of a health care center was started in Mare Briole, Haiti. This is an area between Belle Anse to the east and Jacmel to the west where there was no medical care available to the estimated 50,000 people who live in that department. A separate 501(c)3, SE Haiti Medical Facility, Inc. is established for the express purpose of funding the ongoing expenses of providing care to the people of the south east department of Haiti. All donations are tax deductible. 100% of donations are sent to Haiti to be used to operate the clinic. The only salaries are for the people working in the clinic. There are no administrative costs.
On January 9, 2025 the clinic opened and patients are now being seen daily!
Our Team
Dr. Wantory Regala is now providing full time health care services in Mare Briole!
Dr. Wantory has finished his post graduate training and has moved to Jacmel with his family. He grew up in Belle Anse and is very familiar with the needs in the area.
Our facility administrator is Bekert Descollines. Bekert is also from Belle Anse and has worked with HERO for the past 20 years on many construction projects. Bekert is currently working on his law degree. He also administrates another 501(c)3, BATF, for the betterment of life in Belle Anse.
Nurse Nathalie has cared for patients in Mare Briole in the past and has joined us to serve in the new clinic. We are so pleased to have her on the team.
